Blackburn Motor Body has set the standard for the motor vehicle
panel repair industry for many years, employing some of the most highly-trained
staff in the automotive industry and utilising leading-edge technology in
all facets of its operation.
Four years ago, owner-Managing Director, Mr Bruce Bennett set a corporate goal of reinventing the way the company carried out its business, in doing so BMB became the most technologically advanced autobody repair operation in the country. The search began in Europe, drawing on some of the most sophisticated equipment out of Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Italy followed by a whirlwind trip to the US before the shopping list was complete.
This signalled the start of a massive redevelopment program behind the faade of Blackburn Motor Body's Railway Road premises with the commissioning of a 78,000 square foot land area, state-of-the-art autobody repair facility. It is one of the largest and certainly the most technology advanced in the Southern Hemisphere.
Within 18 months of commissioning the new facility last October, Blackburn Motor Body won the coveted Paint and Panel Magazine Bodyshop of the Year Award 2001. Blackburn Motor Body won against stiff competition from some of the finest repair facilities in Australia.
AUSTRALIAN BODY SHOP OF THE YEAR
BMB is a fiercely independent collision repair organisation servicing the needs of a dedicated network of fleet and private customers. As visitors walk through the massive facility, they are amazed at the level of technology and are left in no doubt that their vehicle is being repaired to an exceptionally high standard. Technicians are likely to be working on models such as Lexus, Mercedes, Porche, BMW, Jaguar, Audi and Volvo, alongside Subaru, Honda, VW, Holden, Toyota, Ford and other family vehicles.
Exceptional Staff Training
BMB maintains its leading-edge with constant retraining of staff in the latest technology. This is achieved in the company's world-class training centre with video presentations providing instant access to Best Practice body repair techniques.
To keep pace with the never-ending changes in paint system technology, chassis alignment, ABS braking systems, sophisticated engine management and cooling systems, airbag resetting and advanced electronics, Blackburn Motor Body spends more than 4% of its annual turnover on staff training
The cost difference
Does it follow that repair costs in BMB's operation are more expensive than your local 2 to 3 man repair shop? The General Manager says because BMB's high-tech equipment is often out of the financial reach of small operations, BMB can complete repairs more quickly and accurately with its purpose-built equipment.
"BMB run a two shift operation, ensuring the repaired vehicle is returned to service in the minimum of time. The workshop can routinely handle more than 230 repaired vehicles per month with 32 full-time staff.
"This service is highly regarded by our Fleet Manager clients, whose major requirement, after quality repair, is to minimise downtime. Given that our repair costs are no more expensive than other similarly-sized, less well-equipped shops, why would you take your car elsewhere?"
As part of its exceptional levels of service to clients, BMB maintains a pick-up and delivery service throughout Victoria and a 24 hour assistance hotline.

Says the G.M., "every customer is encouraged to complete a questionnaire after taking delivery of their vehicle, so they have a chance to rate our performance. We monitor all these comments so we can achieve continuous improvement to the services we offer to our customers."
One thing you can be assured of, Blackburn Motor Body produces a professional repair and superb paint finish, reinstating the vehicle back to its pre-accident condition.
Says the Managing Director Bruce Bennett, "although the Body Shop of the Year Award is exciting to win, Blackburn Motor Body strive to maintain a competitive edge and achieve product excellence. Our belief is that our corporate values are in its everyday business, through honesty, integrity and mutual respect. Our goal is to exceed customer expectations."
